Friend remembers Titilayo Arowolo, banker murdered by husband in 2011

Nigerians were woken to a rude shock on July 3, 2011 when a promising young banker, Titilayo Arowolo, was brutally murdered by her husband, Akolade Arowolo, in their home in the Isolo area of Lagos State.

The woman was reportedly stabbed several times by the jobless husband after a domestic misunderstanding. It has been five years now and while her family and friends still mourn her demise, it is not yet known what has become of the man who snuffed life out of her and rendered her young child motherless.
But a close friend of the deceased, Shola Betty Adex, a Nigerian-born American Soldier, remembers her with fond memories.

This is what Adex, founder of No More Pain Initiative, an ardent advocate against domestic violence, wrote as a tribute to Titilayo:
"Titilayo, you are still on my mind and I often wonder what if I knew you prior to July 3rd, 2011?
Today, July 3rd clocks 5 years since you lost your PRECIOUS life to the man that claimed he love and cherish you. You will always be in my heart.
Titilayo, when I heard the news and saw never released pictures of the incident (sent to me after speaking with your dad and cousin), I cried for days.
Few days after your death, I wiped my tears and promised to continue to fight the global epidemic called Domestic Violence till I take my last breathe on earth.
To anyone going through domestic violence, please reach out to someone. Your life is precious. No relationship or marriage filled with one or all types of abuse is worth it."

"Don't think about 'what will people say when I leave him/her?' PEOPLE WILL TALK ANYWAY! They will be quick to say 'Why didn't she leave?'

Please seek help! There is always a way out of every situation if not many ways. Start living a healthy life. TRUE LOVE SHOULDN'T HURT!"

John Obi Mikel Nigerian midfielder leaves Chelsea for China

Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel announced on Friday he is leaving English Premier League leaders Chelsea to join Chinese side Tianjin TEDA. He is the latest star to head to the Chinese Super League, after the high-profile signings of Chelsea team-mate Oscar by Shanghai SIPG and Carlos Tevez by Shanghai Shenhua in recent weeks. Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel made 374 appearances for Chelsea play John Obi Mikel (AFP) Midfielder Mikel has not featured at all for Chelsea under manager Antonio Conte, who took over in July. "After 10 years, 374 appearances and 11 trophies, it is time for me to say goodbye," Mikel said in a letter posted on his Twitter account. John Obi Mikel play John Obi Mikel leaves Chelsea for Chinese club, Tianjin TEDA (Twitter/Tianjin TEDA) "I haven't featured as much this season as I would have liked, and at 29 I still have many years in the game ahead of me. "With this in mind, I feel now is the time to seek a new challenge. "I'm delighted to be joining Tianjin TEDA FC in China, at a time that the Chinese Super League is really taking off. "I look forward to helping Tianjin TEDA FC continue to grow both on and off the pitch in the next few years."

In his farewell letter, Mikel reflected on his career at the Blues. John Obi Mikel play John Obi Mikel leaves Chelsea for Chinese club, Tianjin TEDA (Twitter/Tianjin TEDA) "I joined Chelsea as a 19-year-old kid from the Norwegian Premier League, making my debut in the Community Shield," he said. "I say goodbye as a champion of England, a champion of Europe, and proud captain of my national team." Mikel gave no details about the contract he's signed. Brazilian midfielder Oscar, 25, landed in Shanghai on Monday for a reported Asian transfer record 60 million euros ($63 million) deal. China ordered a clampdown on Thursday on the mega sums being shelled out on foreign football stars after the high-profile signings of Oscar and Tevez, reportedly now the highest paid player in the world commanding 38 million euros a season.

There has to be action against "irrational investment" and the government will "regulate and restrain high-priced signings and make reasonable restrictions on players' high incomes", a state General Administration of Sport spokesman warned. Insolvent clubs could be kicked out of China's Super League, which has been spending more than the English Premier League in recent transfer windows to draw top names.

NUPENG FG moves to avert oil workers’ strike The FG has made a move following the announcement by NUPENG to begin a three-day warning strike from January 11, 2017.

The Federal Government is to resolve the dispute between workers in the petroleum sector and some oil companies operating in the country, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Mr Joseph Ogbebor, General Secretary, Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) gave this hint in an interview with NAN on Thursday in Lagos.
NAN gathered that the government moves followed the announcement by NUPENG to begin a three-day warning strike from January 11.

The workers are going on strike to protest the alleged violation of the country’s extant labour laws and anti-workers disposition of the oil companies.
Ogbebor said that the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has intervened in the matter, having called labour leaders to a meeting scheduled for January 11 in Abuja.
We wonder why the meeting is fixed for the same day we are to start the strike.
“What I can tell you further is that if the government does not meet our demands, we will proceed with the strike,” he said.
He warned that if the proposed strike was not averted, it would result in fuel scarcity, as Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), an arm of NUPENG, would be prevented from lifting petroleum products from depots.
Long queues are also likely to resurface at petrol filling stations across major cities, as the strike may create panic buying from anxious persons,’’ he said.

Igwe Achese, the NUPENG President, who announced the plan by the workers to go on strike, said the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union took the decision in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He said that the warning strike was preparatory to a nationwide strike, if there was no intervention by the Federal Government.

Some of the major issues alleged by the union were the total closure of the Chevron’ eastern operations through divestment; and the refusal to discuss the redundancy terms.
Others are the refusal to facilitate the formation of Chevron labour Contractors Forum to interface with NUPENG, as well as Chevron’s refusal to allow workers to unionise, which has been causing industrial relations tension.

Tragic..Lagos Lawmakers pass death penalty for kidnappers

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a bill aimed at checking the spate of kidnapping in the state into law, with stiffer penalties including death sentence for offenders.

The lawmakers passed the Bill for a Law to Provide for the Prohibition of the Act of Kidnapping and for Other Connected Purposes after the third reading.
The passage of the bill was also sequel to the adoption of a report presented by Mrs Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Petitions, Human Rights and Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
Sponsored by the Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, it prescribes death sentence for kidnappers whose victims die in their custody and life sentence for kidnappers whose victims do not die in the hands of their abductors.

The bill states that any person who kidnaps, abducts, detains, captures or takes another person by any means or trick with intent to demand ransom or do anything against his/her will, commits an offence.
The bill also stipulates life imprisonment for anyone who makes an attempt to kidnap another person.
NAN reports that the bill prescribes seven years imprisonment for anyone making false representation to release a kidnapped or abducted person.
The lawmakers also approved 25 years imprisonment as penalty for anyone found guilty of threatening to kidnap another person through phone call, e-mail, text message or any other means of communication.
The bill prescribes penalty for any person, who knowingly or wilfully allows or permits his premises, building or a place or belonging to which he has control of, to be used for the purpose of keeping a person kidnapped.

According to the bill, such a person is guilty of an offence under the law and liable to 14 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The speaker, who read the 20 sections of the bill one after the other for members’ approval, conducted a voice vote before its passage.
Obasa directed the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni, to forward a clean copy of the bill to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for assent.
NAN recalls that Lagos State has recorded recurrent cases of kidnappings, with the incident affecting students in two schools in 2016.

In February 2016, three schoolgirls were seized from Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu, but were later freed by the police.
In October, gunmen stormed the Lagos Model College, Igbonla, Ikorodu, and took away the vice principal, a teacher and four students.
They were also after several days.
NAN reports that kidnappers also stormed the palace of a traditional ruler, the Oniba of Iba, Yishau Goriola Oseni, in July and abducted him.
His release was later secured and several persons are on trial over the kidnap.
NAN reports that the House also adopted the recommendations of its Committee on Youths and Sports on a Bill for a Law to Provide for the Establishment of the Lagos State Sports Commission and for Connected Purpose after a debate.
The bill, seeking to create a commission for sports in the state to administer sporting activities, provides for the constitution of board members, duties and responsibilities, among others.

"Publish the names of the beneficiaries of N5K," Gov tells Buhari

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has requested for the names of the beneficiaries of the N5000 stipend the President Muhammad buhari administration has reportedly started giving poor Nigeria.

The vocal governor reportedly challenged President Buhari to publish the names of the beneficiaries, which includes the poor and the uneducated, people who never had a chance to experience formal education, go to universities and get good jobs... if truly the FG had distributed such funds since December 30, 2016.

Fayose, who claimed to have already started paying the poor residents of Ekiti the sum of N1000, said only All Progressive Congress-led states will publicly agree to the claims by he FG.
The governor went further to say no one in Ekiti has been a beneficiary of the fund even though the state was included as the first nine states to enjoy the facility.
In his words, he said: “A blind man will say it is when it gets into my mouth that I will say you are feeding me, not promises.
He continued by saying the APC “should come to the reality that Nigerians are hungry and also angry and that Nigerians are no longer interested in empty promises.”
He further accused the ruling party of focusing on 2019 rather than making the country better and said the project was a World Bank own with payment made since 2016.

“Federal government’s N5,000 payment to the poor was designed in a way that the state governors are also involved because they are to clear and present prospective beneficiaries before payments are made," Fayose said.
The FG on Monday,  announced that it has started disbursing the N5000 monthly stipend to one million poor and most vulnerable Nigerians through the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) of its Social Investment Programmes (SIP).

Peace to corps to generate over 800,000 thousand jobs for youths and undergraduates

The Commandant-General, Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Dickson Akor, has said that the organisation will generate 800,000 jobs for youths in the country.

Akor, who made this known at a news briefing at his residence in Ogoli-Ugboju, Oturkpo Local Government Area on Wednesday, said the Corp was one of the best channels to engage Nigerian youths.
He, however,  said that this would be made possible when the bill establishing the PCN was assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The bill, sponsored by Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC-Borno), was first read at plenary on March 10, 2016 and scaled second reading.
It seeks to facilitate peace volunteerism, community service, neighbourhood watch and nation building.
The bill will also facilitate the training of youths to advance the course of peace building and conflict transformation.
It will engage peace education, mediation and conflict resolution among warring groups or communities where there are crisis in Nigeria to advance its course.
“President Buhari and the Nigerian Army under the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai must be commended for their efforts in capturing Sambissa Forest.
“While I canvas support for the security agencies to engender peace and social order, however, the corps is strategically placed to complement the activities of security agencies,’’ Akor said.
Akor said the corps would be saddled with voluntarism and neighbourhood watch activities in different communities across the country.
He called on Nigerians to learn to live together for peaceful coexistence in 2017.
He said the corps had formations and offices in virtually every state and local government in the country, and described it as one of the best channels to engage youths.
The PCN boss said that he constructed a state-of-the-art police station with closed circuit television and other equipment for the police in his community due to the threatening state of insecurity in the country.
He added that this gesture was aimed at adequately securing Benue and preventing the nasty experiences meted out to the Agatu people and several parts of Tivland.
Akor lauded the spirit of accommodation in his community, and urged that the communities dwell in peaceful coexistence and not in hostility.
“The spirit of accommodation in this community is buttressed by the presence of the Fulanis and the Sarkin Hausawa of Benue South Senatorial District at my residence to celebrate the new year,’’ he said.
He, however, decried the deplorable state of the road passing through Ogoli-Ugboju, leading to Onyagede and Ankpa in Kogi.
He called on the anti-graft agencies to investigate the award of the contract for repair of the road.
Akor said several people, including pregnant women, had died as a result of the delay in accessing medication due to the bad condition of the road.

ONLINE COURSES AND STUDYING ABROAD

Now, considering the fact that there can be so many factors that make usopt for the very magnanimous option of studying abroad, or better still, taking online courses that might probably not  even get approved.

Today, my audience will actually go out to Africans, and nigeria in particular. Apart from the fact that most of our schools are kindof substandard and facilities in there are a no go area, the hostels are really dingy and preoccupied.

But all the same, Schools arent really that bad here…

Now one thing that disturbs most of us as candidates, is actually the mode of entering the university, yes, you heard me right, the mode.

So many nigerians, both home and abroad are actually familiar with this keyword…JAMB…lol, the worlds famous JAMB.

JAMB, is an educational body, that governs the mode of entry into the university in nigeria. They are in charge of exams and admissions…

In literal words, you would say JAMB actually designs our destiny…. Yes

They make the rules, and decides who goes in or who doesn’t

As a business man, who never had the opportunity to attend the four walls of a university, and probably you have earned some cool amount of money, and well, you pretty much wouldn’t allow education to rule your booming business, lol

Apply for online courses from prestigous schools around the world, where you can learn from the comfort of your home, watch online videos, and take live webcam videos of classes

There are so many foreign  schools that provide this feature, and they are really cheap if you would ask me.

Now, coming to the problem of accreditation, the government actually approves the  certificates of so many high world class educ ational institutions that provides online courses for students
